Training

Night rating — NVFR

The night rating extends the private pilot licence and is a prerequisite for the instrument rating. It is completed in a few sessions, from October to March.

Night approach: the illuminated runway seen from the cockpit

The NVFR rating consists of a five-hour theory briefing on night flying techniques, a session on the FNPT II simulator, four hours of dual flight and one hour solo including five full-stop landings. Training is flown on the Diamond DA40 or Sonaca 200.

Why this rating

Without it, a private pilot must be on the ground before aeronautical night — a real constraint from autumn onwards. With it, the flying day stretches and planning becomes more flexible.

It is also required to exercise instrument rating privileges at night, and is therefore an integral part of the professional course.
