Training

Multi-engine and instrument flying

The multi-engine rating opens the Diamond DA42; the instrument rating opens flight in poor visibility. Most of our students prepare both as a single path, concluded by a single skill test.

The MEP rating comprises twelve hours of technical briefing, a theory test on the aircraft used and six hours of dual flight on the Diamond DA42. The IR-ME adds twelve hours of IFR briefing, forty hours on the FNPT II simulator and fifteen hours of IFR flight on the DA42, PBN approaches included. Most of our students take both briefings together, fly the MEP then the IR-ME, and sit a single skill test covering both ratings.

Instrument flying

The IR lets you fly when the weather rules out visual flight: you fly on instruments alone, without external visual reference. Training is in two stages — basic instrument flying on the simulator, then IFR procedures and navigation in the aircraft.

Our Diamond DA42s and Alsim AL42 simulators have been certified for PBN approaches (RNAV/RNP) since December 2016, a first in Belgium. PBN is an integral part of the course, with no supplement or separate module.

IR-SE to IR-ME conversion

If you already hold a single-engine instrument rating, converting to multi-engine takes two hours of IFR flight on the DA42 and three hours of simulator, on top of the MEP rating.

For a conversion against a deadline — rating validity, counted leave — the schedule is set with the school before enrolment.
