Commercial pilot licence — CPL(A)

The commercial licence authorises paid flying. The practical course lasts fifteen hours dual and concentrates on precision: navigation, parameter keeping, flying the aircraft to the standard expected in an airline.

CPL(A) training at Air Academy New CAG comprises ten hours dual on the Diamond DA40 G1000 and five hours on the Diamond DA42. It is reduced to fifteen hours for instrument rating holders; candidates without an IR follow the long twenty-five-hour programme.

Entry requirements

  • Hold a valid class 1 medical certificate.
  • Hold a PPL(A) issued in accordance with ICAO Annex 1.
  • Be 18 years old.
  • Log 150 flight hours, including 20 hours of cross-country as pilot-in-command and 5 hours at night.

On completion

  • Log at least 200 flight hours as a pilot.
  • Have flown a 300-nautical-mile cross-country with two full-stop landings at aerodromes different from departure.
  • Log at least 100 hours as pilot-in-command.
